The 718 Spyder RS is not your typical convertible sports car that can only be driven with the top down. It's an open-top sports car that fearlessly takes every turn, even with the top closed. This recently introduced model is a companion to the 718 Cayman GT4 RS. It shares the same lightweight powertrain, which boasts a high-revving engine known for its impressive performance, and this powertrain is also utilized in the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup racing car.
It features a two-piece manual lightweight roadster top with sleek fins, which can be fully detached, used as a canvas roof, or utilized as a canvas roof with a weather partition. To achieve maximum weight reduction, you have the option to store the top at home instead of in the trunk. This choice saves up to 35 lbs compared to the 718 Boxster. Additionally, you can choose between red or grey accents or opt for an all-Black variant. Join us at Porsche of Colorado Springs in CO as we delve into learning more about the features and specifications of the 2024 Porsche 718 Spyder RS.
The 2024 718 Spyder RS has the same 4.0-liter flat-six engine as the Cayman GT4 RS. This powerful engine generates 493 horsepower at 9,000 rpm and 331 lb. ft. torque at 6,250 rpm. Porsche states that the Spyder RS has a top speed of 191 mph and can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.2 seconds, half a second faster than the standard 718 Spyder. The only transmission option available is Porsche's seven-speed dual-clutch automatic.
According to Porsche, the design of the 718 Spyder RS draws inspiration from the limited-edition 935 released in 2018. There are elements such as an exposed carbon fiber hood, carbon fiber combustion air scoops, and a carbon fiber Gurney flap on the rear spoiler. As typical of Porsche Spyder models, the distinct streamliners at the back end visually extend the shape of the Black Supplemental safety bars. This unique design element evokes a sense of nostalgia, reminiscent of the silhouette of previous models.
Combined with the Weissach Package, the upper section of the housing for the raised third brake light between the streamliners features a carbon-weave finish, matching the finisher of the Supplemental safety bars. Moreover, in combination with the Weissach Package, the rear spoiler with a Gurney flap in a carbon-weave finish creates a sporty finish. Addtionally, the car is fitted with 20-inch ultra-high-performance (UHP) tires specifically engineered for optimal performance. These tires feature a generous contact area and excellent grip to enhance the car's overall handling capabilities.
