How Did the Porsche 911 Get Its Name? 

The world first met the Porsche 911 at the 1963 Frankfurt Motor Show under the Porsche 901 name. However, after a debate with a fellow automaker who claimed exclusive rights to any three-digit automobile name with a “0” as the middle number, Porsche settled on changing to 911, which would go on to be the longest-running Porsche nameplate. The original 911 model was in production from 1963 to 1973 and it is what started the vehicle’s distinctive design.

In what is now its seventh generation, the Porsche 911 model is as recognizable as its name.
