Porsche has officially presented the Porsche 99X Electric, their all-electric open-wheel racer set to compete in the upcoming two Formula E seasons. This advanced model adheres to the GEN3 Evo regulations, an evolution of Formula E’s third-generation cars, and showcases the Porsche brand’s state-of-the-art in-house developments.  

Making its online debut on October 24, the Porsche 99X Electric starred in a film alongside Formula E safety car driver and GEN3 Evo development driver Bruno Correia. The model features a range of key innovations, including temporary front-wheel drive, enhanced tire grip, and a sturdier front wing.  

Porsche continues to rely on its star drivers for success. World Champion Pascal Wehrlein and Antonio Félix da Costa, last season’s most victorious driver, will drive for the works TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Team. The Andretti Formula E customer team will also compete with two Porsche 99X Electric cars, piloted by former World Champion Jake Dennis and new Porsche works driver Nico Müller.  

Refined Porsche In-House Developments  

The Porsche 99X Electric builds on the brand’s most successful formula race car. In its GEN3 iteration, the car has earned back-to-back world championships: Jake Dennis in 2022/2023 and Pascal Wehrlein in 2023/2024. The car operates under strict energy limits, forcing teams to maximize efficiency in every component. For the GEN3 Evo, Porsche brand’s Weissach development team has fine-tuned the vehicle based on insights from the past two seasons.  

Key Porsche-developed components include the pulse inverter, electric motor, gearbox, differential, suspension, cooling, and operating software for the rear axle. These advancements give the Porsche 99X Electric an edge in performance while remaining within Formula E’s homologation requirements, valid for two seasons.

• Temporary All-Wheel Drive: The front wheels can now be powered during qualifying duels, race starts, and Attack Mode. This temporary all-wheel drive boosts acceleration, allowing the car to reach 62 mph in approximately two seconds. Optimizing this feature enhances race performance and contributes to advancements in the brand’s road cars.  
• High-Performance Tires: Exclusive tire supplier Hankook has developed tires with superior grip for higher speeds. Despite the increased performance, each car remains limited to two sets of tires per race weekend (three for double headers), ensuring a sustainable approach. The all-weather tire design reduces waste by being suitable for wet and dry conditions.  
• Redesigned Front Wing: The Porsche 99X Electric features a modified front wing for improved stability and durability. Additional design enhancements include updates behind the roll bar and in front of the rear wheels, further refining the car’s aerodynamics.

As Porsche enters its sixth Formula E season in 2024/2025, its dedication to electrification and sustainability remains stronger than ever. Competing with both the TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Team and the Andretti customer team, Porsche continues to set benchmarks in the championship.  

The Porsche 99X Electric is developed at the brand’s carbon-neutral Weissach facility, reflecting its vision for a sustainable future.
