The Evolution of Performance: Meet the Lightweight Porsche 911 S/T

A lightweight, agile, and performance-focused sports car, the Porsche 911 S/T is the 60th-anniversary model of Porsche. It seamlessly blends GT and motorsport expertise from the iconic automaker. This expertise is evident in the vehicle’s nimble and agile handling, designed to conquer winding country roads with finesse. Thanks to reduced rotating mass in the engine, wheels, and brakes, the 911 S/T boasts dynamic responsiveness that ensures every steering input, accelerator touch, and brake application is executed precisely. At Porsche of Colorado Springs in CO, we explore more about this limited-edition model that will hit the market soon. Scroll down to read more.

Development of the Porsche 911 S/T

Unlike its track-focused sibling, the 911 GT3 RS, the 911 S/T is engineered for exhilarating journeys on public roads. It promises a unique driving experience within the 911 GT portfolio. This particular edition model proudly carries the torch of a performance-focused ancestor—the 1969 Porsche 911 S. These vehicles, internally designated as 911 ST, underwent significant modifications to enhance acceleration, braking, traction, and cornering grip. While significant spoilers and aerodynamic aids were absent in the original, the new 911 S/T captures the spirit of the past and translates it into the modern Porsche 911 lineup.

Crafted with a keen focus on lightweight design, the 911 S/T features carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) for the hood, roof, front fenders, doors, and more. Additionally, magnesium wheels, the Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake (PCCB) system, a lithium-ion starter battery, and lightweight glass come standard, contributing to its impressively low curb weight of just 3,056 lbs.

Features of the Porsche 911 S/T

Under the hood, engineers developed a new lightweight clutch and paired it with a single-mass flywheel to reduce rotating mass, improving engine responsiveness. With a six-speed manual transmission offering shorter gear ratios, the 911 S/T accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in a brisk 3.5 seconds, reaching a top speed of 186 mph. A unique double-wishbone front-axle design and multi-link rear axle are complemented by specially tuned dampers and control systems for enhanced handling. The Porsche 911 S/T is set to make its U.S. debut in Spring 2024. Take your chance to own a piece of Porsche history!
