What’s the All-Electric Porsche GT4 ePerformance All About?

The Porsche GT4 ePerformance is Porsche’s second all-electric offering after the Taycan 5-seater sports saloon. The GT4 ePerformance features technology components of the Porsche Mission R concept electric sports car and is based on the chassis of the proven Porsche 718 GT4 Clubsport.

The GT4 ePerformance’s electric powertrain and battery technology also come from the Mission R concept, and it puts out a maximum output of 800 kW or a mind-numbing 1,073 horsepower.

Porsche says the GT4 ePerformance achieved a steady 450 kW (603 hp) for 30 minutes, i.e., the duration of a Carrera Cup race in stimulated racing and is on par with the performance of the current 992-generation 911 GT3 Cup in terms of top speed and lap times.

The all-electric GT4 ePerformance is also capable of fast charging and can charge from 5 to 80 percent in just about 15 minutes, thanks to its 900-volt charging technology.

What is Porsche Mission R?

Porsche had outlined the vision for a fully electric GT racing car intended for customer motorsport at the 2021 IAA Mobility in Munich, Germany. This vision resulted in an ultra-compact, all-electric concept sports car called the Porsche Mission R – Porsche’s first step toward an all-electric customer motorsport vehicle.

How Did Porsche Design the GT4 ePerformance?

Porsche had to redesign about 6,000 parts for the Porsche for the GT4 ePerformance. The GT4 ePerformance’s body comprises natural fiber reinforced plastic (NFRP) composite materials, the primary material of which is made from flax fibers obtained from farming. The production of this material is intended to generate 85 percent fewer emissions than that of similar synthetic materials such as carbon fiber.

Thanks to its flared fenders, the Porsche GT4 ePerformance is 140 mm wider than the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport on which it is based. The wider stance allows more room for the wider 18-inch Michelin racing tires, a large proportion of whose composition (nearly 53 percent) is made of bio-based or recycled materials.
