This ultra-high-performance tire promises better grip, improved handling, and a heightened driving experience on both wet and dry surfaces. For those looking to learn more about the ultimate tire upgrade for the timeless Porsche Carrera GT, Porsche of Colorado Springs in Colorado Springs, CO, is your destination for all updates and exclusive insights.

A Game-Changing Tire Development

In collaboration with its trusted partner, Michelin, Porsche has introduced an ultra-high-performance tire for the Carrera GT. Manufactured from 2003 to 2006, this super sports car, with only 1,270 units built, remains an icon of automotive engineering. The newly developed Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tire enhances the Carrera GT’s precision and overall performance, making this classic more capable.

Porsche’s development driver and brand ambassador, Joerg Bergmeister, extensively tested the updated tire. “The Carrera GT is an absolute dream car. This is why I’m particularly excited that the new tire raises the performance of this legend to a new level,” Bergmeister remarked.

The tire upgrade optimizes driving dynamics, enabling the car to perform exceptionally well on wet and dry pavement.

A History of Tire Updates

When the Carrera GT debuted in 2003, it was celebrated as one of the fastest production cars in the world. Powered by a naturally aspirated V10 engine initially developed for the 24 Hours of Le Mans endurance race, the Carrera GT produces 605 horsepower and 435 lb.-ft. of torque. Its powerful engine enables it to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in just 3.9 seconds and achieve a top speed of 205 mph.

From the factory, bespoke Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 tires were paired with the Carrera GT. In 2013, Michelin introduced the Pilot Super Sport tires as an upgrade, and now, the legacy continues with the Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires. These tires, exclusively marked with the Porsche brand’s N-designation, incorporate the latest advancements in tire technology.

Tire Technology Redefined

The collaboration between Porsche and Michelin highlights their commitment to uncompromising quality.

“It’s very unusual for new tires to be developed for a 20-year-old vehicle. This underscores how important the Carrera GT is for Porsche and their customers to this day,” Bergmeister explained.

The Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires feature Dual-Compound-Technology, which uses different rubber compounds for optimal performance. Silica-based compounds on the inner tread enhance wet grip, while the outer shoulder uses industrial soot for superior dry grip. Combined, these materials deliver an exceptional balance of control and stability.

The tire’s performance was further fine-tuned on the Nürburgring-Nordschleife racetrack, ensuring superior handling and feedback during spirited driving. Drivers will appreciate the enhanced communication between the tires and the road, making it easier to control the car at the limits of traction.

Enhanced Driving Dynamics

The Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires significantly improve the Carrera GT model’s performance. Quicker lap times and enhanced braking distances are among the standout benefits. From 62 mph, the stopping distance is reduced by up to 8 feet, while braking from 124 mph can shorten by as much as 39 feet. These advancements demonstrate how motorsport-inspired technology continues to push the boundaries of what’s possible in production vehicles.

In addition to performance gains, the new tires contribute to an overall safer driving experience.

“Tires that are specifically developed for a vehicle are always an advantage. Not just in terms of performance but also stopping ability. This data shows that in an impressive manner,” noted Bergmeister.
