The Evolution of Turbo Technology in Porsche

In the early 1970s, Porsche took a bold step into turbocharging. Initially tested in motorsport, this cutting-edge technology quickly proved its worth. The brand’s dominance on the racetrack, with 17 out of 19 Le Mans victories powered by turbo engines, cemented its position as a pioneer in high-performance engineering. On October 3, 1974, Porsche introduced the first-ever 911 Turbo at the Paris Motor Show. This marked the beginning of a legacy that continues to redefine sports car performance today.

To commemorate this milestone, Porsche has released a four-part YouTube series, “Porsche Heritage Moments.” Hosted by Le Mans champion Timo Bernhard, the series delves into the history of Porsche Turbo with insights from legendary figures like Norbert Singer, Hermann Burst, and Walter Röhrl. These experts provide a rare behind-the-scenes look at how the automaker’s turbo technology evolved from racetracks to road cars, shaping the iconic 911 Turbo we know today.
